Fingle Bridge is a calm spot on the River Teign, surrounded by pristine woods and perhaps one of the most well known walks in Devon. It’s a moderate walk and takes around 2 hours.
Start off at the car park at Castle Drogo, and follow signs for the Teign Valley estate, turn right and follow signs for Hunters Path. Go down a flight of steps and through a small gate, onto Piddledown Common. At the bottom of the steps you join Hunters Path and turn left and follow the signs for Fingle Bridge.
You will go pass the iconic Sharps Tor on your right and then between a small gate between granite posts (Hunters Gate) and then after approximately 50 yards, take the right hand path and go downwards following signs for Fingle Bridge. At the bottom of the path you will join the road to Fingle Bridge, turn right and walk along the road to the bridge, but please take care as it is a road. Cross the bridge to the other side where you will see the National Trust car park and toilets, and turn right. Walk through the meadow to the small wooden footbridge at the far end and join the track (known as Foresters Track). You will be able to follow the river back through the gorge.
