Branscombe

A Walk around Branscombe

This is a moderate dog friendly walk around Branscombe, which should take you just under an hour. Branscombe is a picturesque village on the South Devon coast – a 1 hour drive from Bowerland.

Directions

Park up at the Branscombe National Trust car park. From the car park go across the road and through the gate opposite. You will pass an information point and some toilets. Follow this path through the orchard and you will see the Old Bakery Tea Rooms. A great place to stop for refreshments on the way back. Cross over two fields and along the leat and go through the Millenium Orchard.

National Trust Water Mill

At the far side of the orchard you’ll see the National Trust’s Manor Mill, which is a working watermill. Turn right after Manor Mill and head up the hill, along a farm track and then through the fields. It is very steep and can get slippery in wet weather. Go up the flight of steps until you reach a bridle path.

You can choose to go to Branscombe Beach for a longer walk

Turn right and follow the bridle path through the woods. There is a longer walk you can take, if you turn left here and go to the coast and beach.

Shorter Walk

But if you are keeping to the shorter walk, turn down the hill and proceed down another steep slope until you reach the church. After passing the church, walk down the road past some thatched cottages and a post office. When you get to the end of the row, turn left and walk up the small lane until you reach Branscombe school. Follow the path back to the car park from where you started.
