This is a great 4 mile circular walk to take your dog on if you’re staying at Bowerland. Okehampton Castle is a medieval motte and bailey castle, which was built between 1068 and 1086. Opening times change depending on the time of year.
Drive to the car park at Simmons Park
There is a pay and display parking area. Once you are parked up, walk back the way you drove in and take a left into Mill Street. You could take the scenic route by turning left over the East Okement River. This route meanders through some lovely gardens coming out into Mill Street.
Okehampton Castle
Continue along Mill Road, pass Station Road on the left. At the cross roads up ahead, you find the post office is on the corner, turn left into Castle Road, with the post office on your right-hand side. Continue along Castle Road, crossing over the West Okement River. Continue following Castle Road until you reach the Okehampton Castle on your left.
