Meldon Reservoir

This lovely walk will take you about 3 hours, and we would consider it a moderate walk. It’s less than 10 minutes from Bowerland and perfect if you want to take your dogs for a longer walk during your Stay & Train holiday –  Map.

From the A30, south of Okehampton, follow the signs for Meldon. From the car park walk over the dam, and turn right for the picnic area. If you go up over the hills there are some great views all around, Dartmoor at its best.

Black Tor Copse

Walk outwards skirting Dartmoor Firing area to Black Tor, and drop down to Black Tor Copse which is a beautiful environmental area by the river.  It’s a lovely spot to stop, sit and just enjoy the wonderful countryside around you. To walk back, just follow the river and it will take you back to the dam.

Meldon Viaduct

This is a shorter walk, perhaps 1.5 hours. From the car park take the first gate on your left and walk down the hill towards the viaduct. Follow the river under the viaduct and carry on to the A30. There are signs to take you back to the viaduct, and if you climb the short set of steps onto the viaduct you will see some great views. To return, go back down the steps, and go left onto the moor through a small camp area. If you follow the tracks it will take you right back to the dam.
