Have you been feeling overwhelmed lately? The past couple of years have certainly been a little challenging, what with covid, lockdowns, sickness and much more. Here are my Top Tips how to cool down, let go and unwind:
1. Keep a daily journal
Start off by purchasing a lovely new notebook and a bright, sparkly pen that glides over the page. Get some colourful stickers and stencils to brighten up the entries. Release your creativity and set yourself a daily goal of 10 mins or so each day. If you find it hard to remember to do, then combine journal writing with a cuppa at your favourite time of the day, perhaps at your elevenses break or if not, at the end of the day. And make it a habit! Let off steam in your journal. If nothing springs to mind easily, start off by writing down 3 things that have happened to you over the last 24 hours. And bring to mind anything that you feel grateful for. Describe your feelings in as much detail as you can.
2. Allow yourself regular time to relax and chill
Whether that is for meditating (a fantastic way of calming down and balancing out your stresses and strains), or for listening to music, to a podcast or even an audio book. People in general have forgotten how to relax, how to feel lazy and luxurious, and just simply enjoy themselves. We are all so focused on getting things done, on being more productive and ticking tasks off our to do lists that we have forgotten how to relax and enjoy just being ourselves.
3. Get out in the fresh air
Feel the sun on your skin, the rain on your face, the wind in your ears. No matter what the weather is like, we always feel better after being outside. It doesn’t have to be for long… see if you can manage 20 minutes at least every day. I always aim for a short walk in the morning before I get too tied up and involved in the day-to-day tasks. But sometimes it tends to be at the end of the day, when my chores are finished and before I settle down for the evening. Whatever time works best for you, I promise you will feel better for being outside.
4. Small Steps
Take small steps to regain your confidence, balance your emotions and keep your cool. Make a start today, don’t procrastinate, plan it in now!
