Finch Foundry

Finch Foundry to Belstone

This is an easy to moderate walk starting at Finch Foundry, going up to Belstone Tor and back – about 1.5 hours. The views are breathtaking and there are a couple of places to stop for a pint, or cup of tea. And it’s very close to Bowerland – only a 10 minute drive away (map).

Finch Foundry
  • From the A30 go off on the turning for Okehampton, then take a right towards Sticklepath and Belstone.
  • Drive through the little hamlet of Sticklepath and park outside the Finch Foundry. This is a 19th century working water-powered forge in England, originally used to produce agricultural and mining hand tools. The National Trust has been running it since 1994.
  • Walk through the gate, cross the bridge and follow the river which will be on your right.
Belstone

Cross another bridge and follow the path and river (this time on your left) up the valley to Belstone. Stop for a refreshing pint and sit outside the Tors, there is an amazing view across Dartmoor. You can return either over the moors, or by the river path. You can then pop into the Finch Foundry for a lovely cup of tea to round off the day.
