This is an easy walk through Abbeyford Woods and takes between 1 – 3 hours. These beautiful woods contains majestic Douglas Fir trees, areas of old beech and runs alongside the banks of the River Okement. There are also lots of cycle trails and wild flowers. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and running. About 15 minute drive from Bowerland. (Google Map)
Take the road through Okehampton, towards Crediton
At the roundabout take the left hand road towards Okehampton Hospital. Travel down to the end of the road and then take the right hand turn off. Follow this road for about a quarter of a mile. Go over the bridge, and then take a sharp left up the hill in front of you.
Places to park
You will find that all the way along this road there are places to park where you will be able to take a walk through the woods. But please take care, and stick to the paths as the woods can be quite dark and muddy at times, especially if you go off the beaten track.
